Rockstar Games Hints Possibility of Bringing Past GTA Titles to PS5/PS4

From a top-down Grand Theft Auto (GTA) game to the franchise’s sixth installment announcement, Rockstar Games is on the way to making history — again.

Three months after the first GTA VI trailer was released, Implicit Conversions appears to have struck a deal with the game publisher.

Everything about Rockstar Games’ partnership with the game emulation company is broken down on this page, including what it means in the future.

About Implicit Conversions

Implicit Conversions is a consulting company dedicated to serving as the middleware for retro emulation in the gaming industry. In simpler terms, they assist in making old titles compatible with modern consoles for game developers and publishers.

Implicit Conversions has partnered with the following game developers and publishers:

  • Sony Interactive Entertainment
  • Disney Interactive
  • Game Arts
  • Bandai Namco
  • Square Enix
  • Konami
  • Capcom
  • Team17
  • Bend Studio
  • Cyan Game Productions
  • Guerilla Games

And recently, Implicit Conversions partnered with Rockstar Games.

When Did The Partnership Start?

A Reddit user posted on r/GamingLeaksAndRumors about the partnership between Rockstar Games and Implicit Conversions last March 12, 2024.

Usually, a business matter like this isn’t made public. Upon scouring Rockstar Games’ Newswire, no records indicate the partnership. Moreover, neither LinkedIn profile mentions their collaboration.

Before Rockstar Games’ logo was displayed on Implicit Conversions’ homepage, we checked the Wayback Machine.

From the results below, the partnership may have started between April 3 to October 27, 2023.

Everything to Expect in the Future

Given the services offered by Implicit Conversions, it’s safe to assume that classic GTA games will be made compatible with PS5 & PS4.

In the past, other emulation companies managed to port GTA: San Andreas, GTA III, Vice City, V Story Mode, and V Online. The same was done to PSP, PS1, and PS2 with Rockstar Games.

We’ll keep updating this page for the newest info. But our latest verdict for now:

Classic GTA games that will be added are speculative. However, they’ll likely become a part of PS Plus Premium’s collection of games.
