How to Play GTA 5 Online With Mods (2023)

GTA 5 is not just about the story mode; it also offers an online multiplayer experience. While you’re free to install and customize mods in the offline version, the online counterpart is a different story.

So, the big question is, how do you switch to GTA Online without uninstalling your mods?

In this post, we’ll show you how to play GTA Online with mods on PC.

How to Play GTA Online Without Uninstalling Mods (2023)

In GTA 5, you can easily install mods, change plugins, and tweak files to customize your single-player experience.

But when these mods, plugins, and Asi files are active, you can’t go to GTA Online. When you try to do so, a message on the main screen stops you from playing GTA Online.

One of the most basic and manual methods to solve this problem is by deleting all files, uninstalling GTA 5, and then reinstalling it. However, considering the large storage space required for this game, it will undoubtedly consume much of your time.

As a result, figuring out the solution to switch to GTA Online without uninstalling any files or the whole game is necessary, especially when you alter GTA 5 to GTA Online (and vice versa) regularly.

Point Out the Problem

No problems will occur when you play GTA 5 without mods and want to switch to GTA Online, as this is a normal feature supported by Rockstar Games.

Nevertheless, when you install mods, add-ons, ASI files, and plugins, you’ve made changes to GTA 5’s default RPF (Rage Package File) files. Deleting these files entirely isn’t an option (as some have replaced the default ones). Since GTA Online doesn’t support mods/add-ons, you must figure out how to disable them.

How to Play GTA Online With Mods Installed

First, modified RPF files are loaded by ASI Loader and OpenIV.ASI. Therefore, to disable these files, you need to disable ASI Loader and OpenIV.ASI.

Suppose that you’ve got lots of mods for your GTA 5, so you must install OpenIV and its attached tools (ASI loader/manager, OpenIV.ASI, etc.).

Open OpenIV and select GTA 5 (Windows), then at the main screen, select “Tools” => “ASI Manager” then uninstall ASI Loader and OpenIV.ASI.

Close OpenIV and open GTA 5, then select Online mode. Now you can access the Online version without installing any mods or add-ons.

If you want the mods back in GTA 5, simply repeat the steps but install the ASI Loader and OpenIV.ASI.
