GTA 6: Why Fans Choose a Longer Single-Player Story Mode Over the Best Online Experience

GTA games have always been known for their incredible open-world experience. However, that experience changed when GTA Online became popular after its release in 2013.

Now, fans are debating whether GTA 6 should focus more on story mode or online gameplay.

Fun Fact: GTA 4 Online (officially called Grand Theft Auto IV: Multiplayer) was released on April 29, 2008, alongside the main game.

GTA Online History

Grand Theft Auto IV (Multiplayer)

As mentioned earlier, Grand Theft Auto IV was the first GTA title to feature a true multiplayer mode, letting players from around the world join and play together online.

It wasn’t a separate mode like GTA Online in GTA 5; instead, it was built directly into the game and allowed up to 16 players to join various modes like Free Mode, Team Deathmatch, and Cops ‘n’ Crooks.

Unlike GTA 5’s Online, GTA 4’s multiplayer didn’t receive major updates or expansions, and its servers were eventually shut down for Games for Windows Live (PC) and later discontinued for PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.

Grand Theft Auto Online

GTA Online first launched on October 1, 2013, just weeks after Grand Theft Auto V. What began as a simple multiplayer mode quickly evolved into one of the most successful online games ever made.

Rockstar kept the game alive with massive free updates like Heists, The Diamond Casino, and Cayo Perico, allowing players to build empires, run businesses, and explore Los Santos together.

Over a decade later, GTA Online remains a global hit, generating billions in revenue and setting the stage for what fans believe will be an even bigger GTA 6 Online experience.

Story Mode VS Online

According to a Reddit post, many GTA 6 fans prefer a longer single-player story mode over an enhanced online experience.

This shows that players are growing tired of GTA Online, which has dominated for over ten years. Some fans feel Rockstar has focused too much on online content and monetization instead of developing new story-driven DLCs.

Interestingly, rumors suggest that GTA 6 might feature story mode DLCs, an idea originally planned but ultimately scrapped for GTA 5.

While these GTA 6 Story Mode DLCs remain unconfirmed, a growing number of fans are already looking forward to the possibility of fresh single-player content once the game launches.
