Rockstar’s latest delay for GTA 6 may have upset fans worldwide, but over at 007 First Light studios, the developers are celebrating.
With the industry’s biggest title pushed back, smaller studios suddenly have room to breathe and compete. Here’s why the team behind the 007 First Light game is more than happy to see GTA 6 take a little longer to arrive.
GTA 6’s Delay Announcement Impacts Other gaming Studios
While GTA 6 fans were angry and disappointed by Rockstar Games’ recent delay announcement, some studios rejoiced! Rockstar’s announcement caused immediate ripples throughout the industry, affecting both large and small gaming developers.

For many studios, GTA 6’s original release window posed a major challenge because they would have to compete for attention, marketing space, and player spending against GTA 6. With the delay, smaller and mid-sized studios suddenly gained valuable breathing room.
007 First Light Devs’ Thoughts
In a recent interview, Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive, the developer and publisher of 007 First Light, says:
“It would be a lie not to say that obviously spring looks really good,” he replied. “I want to say in the same breath that GTA 6 is a welcome thing for the industry. I do believe a lot of gamers who maybe haven’t played for a while will get into things again, and generally for the industry as a whole, I think that will be amazing.”

Now that a big competitor like GTA 6 is out of the spring season, games like 007 First Light, RE: Requiem can breathe easily since they’re going to release in the 1st quarter of 2026.
However, bad news for games like Halloween: The Game and Marvel’s Wolverine, as they will be released during the fall season, which is Rockstar Games’ new release date for GTA 6.
ConCLusion
With GTA 6’s delay reshaping the 2026 gaming calendar, the industry is entering a rare window of opportunity.
Many studios now have more room to fine-tune their projects, reposition their marketing, and avoid being overshadowed by one of the decade’s most anticipated games.
As more titles set release dates for 2026, it becomes clear that the delay has not only changed expectations but also resulted in a more balanced year for both major and emerging developers.
