Dan Houser, who used to be a co-founder of Rockstar Games, says that there are two big reasons why people are so excited for the next game: “the games don’t come out very often, and the series has always pushed the limits.”

Houser points out that one major factor contributing to the surge in excitement is simply the rarity of a new GTA game.

He also said: “people are so excited for GTA 6 because they don’t come out that regularly.” With nearly a decade passing since the previous major release, the wait alone has built a sizable demand for the next chapter.

But the excitement isn’t just about the wait. Houser says that the franchise has always been dedicated to coming up with new ideas.

“We did a really good job of constantly innovating within what the IP was,” he says, highlighting that while each game is unmistakably a GTA game, the experience evolves significantly with each release. This blend of familiarity and novelty is central to why players remain eager.

Houser also credits the marketing approach for matching the ambition of the game itself. He explains that Rockstar Games historically treated their trailers and campaigns like big-budget films, a strategy that set the tone for the character-focused, world-revealing teases fans have seen for GTA 6.
